What do you need to know?
All toll-free numbers need to be registered to be able to send text messages. Text messages will not be sent during pending status.
The messaging industry is making changes to toll-free numbers. This is part of the process of verifying all Toll-Free numbers and aligning sender visibility with the Short Code and 10DLC messaging channels.
Registration for each business will be linked to every toll-free registration. This means each business's tax identifier, such as an EIN in the US, will be linked to their toll-free numbers. This is part of the Know Your Customer (KYC) initiative.
Know Your Customer (KYC) parallels professional processes that banks have created to conduct legal transactions and follow laws set by IRS standards.
The Telecommunications Industry continues to be regulated to follow similar laws and standards that require businesses to have a direct relationship with their customers, know their customer base, and provide transparency in the communications services they utilize. These communications services are part of that economic exchange that banks already regulate. Businesses are using communication services as an avenue for different forms of money exchange. To combat fraud and bad actors, communication services are being regulated to reflect the precedent that banks have set.
What do you need to do?
If you have unverified Toll-Free numbers, please submit these numbers for verification as soon as possible. If you have a large inventory of numbers, please note that you can only register up to 5 toll-free numbers per account. When registering, select the 5 most important numbers for your messaging campaign.
We strongly encourage you to register your Toll-Free number(s) as registration is required for all Toll-Free numbers sending messages.
You cannot use Toll-Free Numbers to text until you have registered each number in the Trust Center. The Toll-Free registration under the Trust Center is a necessary step for text messages to be delivered in the US. You can check the status and verify that the number is registered by going to Numbers -> Trust Center in your AuditCall account.
